Last week, I spent nearly forty minutes trying to get into a medical portal.

Not because I had forgotten my password.

Well, maybe I had.

But first I needed a verification code. The code never arrived. When it finally did, it had already expired.

The help page told me to call a number.

The phone system encouraged me to use the portal.

The portal told me to call the number.

At that moment, I wasn’t worried about technology.

I was worried about my blood pressure.

What struck me later was this: healthcare organizations spend enormous amounts of time helping people manage their physical health, yet many unintentionally create stress before patients ever speak to a doctor.

We often think our frustration is about technology, but it is really about stress, anxiety, helplessness, and the loss of control when we are already feeling vulnerable.

For people who are prone to anxiety, these everyday frustrations can feel especially intense.

You may also feel shame when you struggle to navigate technology.

Shame is the deep, pervasive feeling that you have not just done something wrong, but that something is wrong with you.

Instead of saying, “I made a mistake” or “This is hard for me,” shame says,

“I am the mistake. I am fundamentally flawed. I am stupid and inadequate.”

Fortunately, these reactions can be changed. With the right tools, you can learn to respond to everyday stress with greater calm, self-compassion, and confidence.

Women’s Stress and Anxiety Coaching Group

If everyday stress and anxiety have begun to take over your life, you don’t have to face them alone.

Beginning September 17 through October 15, 2026, I’ll be offering a 5-week Women’s Stress and Anxiety Coaching Group conducted live on Zoom.

Together we’ll learn practical, evidence-based strategies to better understand anxiety, interrupt patterns of excessive worry, calm the body’s stress response, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges. Recordings of each session will also be available for participants who are unable to attend live.
